i came to zanzibar for the first time about 1 year ago, I fell in love with it as soon as we reached the beach. Why? Can't put my finger on it but I felt at home instantaneously. Apart of the spectacular strip of turquoise sea, trapped in between the coral reef with its abounding marine life preventing the Indian Ocean battering the fine sandy beaches which I can only compare it with white flour, and the Island itself.
Zanzibar sounded exotic to me...it always did. I knew so little about it then and now I feel I know a little more but not enough with it's mind boggling history and culture.
The funniest thing is that after living here for...what now? 10 months , I sometimes read in those articles about Zanzibar how developed some villages and resorts are but however one can still find quiet and unspoiled spots. I even read that in a lonely planet book dated 1999 (that is how developed those places are!).
What exactly is developed about Zanzibar? What is spoiled here? In comparison to what? To 30 years ago when one needed to take a boat with a paddle for several hours in one of the narrow uncomfortable dhow. I have travelled extensively around the world before settling here and this is the most unspoiled place I have ever come across. From any point of view. This place is less developed than Cuba was 10years ago,
